Nick grew up in Houston, Texas with an early love for sports. After three devastating knee injuries in high school, however, he realized how quickly your ability to do what you love to do can be taken away from you. He spent years recovering from multiple knee surgeries and he gained a tremendous amount of respect and appreciation for the physical therapy profession. Nick saw the value in the science and compassion that his physical therapy used at every step of the way in his return to his former self. With each milestone reached in his rehab he found his confidence and happiness growing as he realized just how closely our identities can be related to our physical well-being. It was at that time that he decided that he wanted to pursue a career in physical therapy. He earned admission to the accelerated master’s program at Boston University with academic scholarship. Nick moved to Denver after graduation and has been practicing in the Denver Area since 2006. He decided to open his own practice in 2020 after witnessing the physical toll that the isolation and inactivity of the Covid quarantine lifestyle was taking on his patients. He founded Holm Physical Therapy with the goal of providing highly personalized physical therapy in a one-on-one treatment setting without the crowds of a traditional physical therapy clinic.
Nick’s treatment style always starts with a thorough history and evaluation process to determine the best plan of care for each individual client. It is important to assess rather than guess. Once he makes an accurate assessment then he and his clients create a treatment plan and goals together. He then utilizes manual therapy techniques to promote an optimal environment for the body to heal and combines functional exercises to retrain appropriate movement patterns to prevent recurrence of injury. He also stresses the importance of patient education so that clients have the tools at home to maximize their recovery and ability to return to the activities they love.
As the profession is constantly evolving, Nick believes strongly in continuing education, and he has received additional training in the treatment of neck/back injuries, TMJ disorders, ankle/foot pathology, knee/shoulder injuries, and fall prevention. He is a level 3 golf fitness instructor certified by the Titleist Performance Institute. He also practices trigger point dry needling and has been specializing in this highly effective technique since 2009. His preferred method of corrective exercise is with the Redcord sling suspension system as it allows his clients to work in a gravity minimized position to avoid pain and compensations. He feels that a solid foundation for movement leads to improved ability to perform home exercises and recreational activities. Nick loves treating clients of all ages and abilities and is grateful to be able to empower people to overcome the daily obstacles that they face from physical limitations. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, soccer, basketball, football, and softball.
